Deer Antler Education

Hunters and nature enthusiasts, this is the ring for you!

For those who enjoy nature, the cabin life, and deer hunting, what better wedding ring to wear than one made from real deer antler? They want something durable, laid back, and something that will tell the world of their love for the outdoors. Deer hunters, especially, don’t generally want to wear a ring that is sparkly, shiny, or flashy while they’re trying to catch the big buck in the tree stand. That’s why we proudly make wedding bands for both men and women that incorporate antler. Whether it’s your antler or one of ours, we can include it in your dream wedding band.

ANTLER COLOR

If you have a deer antler ring or are thinking about having one made, it is important to note that the color of the antler can vary greatly from ring to ring. There are differences between every buck; from what they’ve rubbed their antlers on, to where they’ve been, their genetics, and even their age. All can play a role in the way their antlers turn out in both color in shade. Because of this, you can be sure that your custom deer antler ring will be one of a kind. This can also mean that the color of the antler in one of our listings may not be the same as the one you receive. The color, the lightness, and the darkness of the antler relies on too many variables to be the same twice. Here’s a more in-depth look on why your custom antler ring may look different than any other.

What Makes The Color So Different In Each Antler Ring?

Different coloration in antlers depends partly on the amount of oxidized blood on the antlers (from velvet shedding) and partly from a chemical reaction between the blood and juices from plants on which the antlers are rubbed. If a buck begins rubbing his antlers before the velvet and blood have completely dried, the blood stains the antler and gives it a darker color. The predominant species of trees in an area also influences the color. Pines allegedly cause darker antlers, likely from bucks rubbing on exposed sap after they break the tree’s cambium layer. A buck’s genetics may also influence color. Some bucks are predisposed to having lighter or darker antlers, and to rub more or fewer trees. A buck’s age can play a role as older bucks tend to rub more than the younger ones. Finally, the time of year can also influence color as antlers generally lighten over time due to the bleaching effect of moisture, sunlight and extreme winter conditions. All of these variables help assure you that the custom antler ring you wear will have it’s own unique look.

Custom designed and handmade deer antler rings are the next big thing. Send us your antler and we can make your new conversation piece – and you can keep the extra unused antler.

COMBINE DEER ANTLER WITH OTHER MATERIALS IN YOUR RING

Looking for something that incorporates deer antler but don’t want to take it overboard into a full blown deer antler ring? Combine deer antler with other materials like whiskey barrel wood, mokume, turquoise, or camo to create a custom look that shows off your unique style.

How To Send Antler For Use In Your Ring

To be able to make a custom antler ring out of your own hunting trophy you can just send it to us! We’ll use a sample of your antler to create a ring better than bragging rights. However there are a few requirements in order to effectively make a ring out of the material. We would need a piece of antler that has at least the following dimensions:

1.5 inches (38.1 mm) in diameter at the smallest point (measured by a caliper) x at least 3 inches (76.2 mm) in length

If your antler is too small we can always crush it and use the fine pieces to make a beautiful hunter’s ring like this one below with the crushed antler pieces.
