Meteorite Rings: Authentic Space Metal, Made to Wear for Life

Meteorite rings are made from genuine iron meteorite—metal that formed in space and cooled so slowly it developed a natural crystal structure called the Widmanstätten pattern. That pattern is why meteorite looks “alive” when it catches the light, and it’s also one of the strongest authenticity signals: it cannot be convincingly replicated by ordinary metals.

Because meteorite is iron-based, it can rust if neglected or exposed to harsh conditions. The solution is not to avoid meteorite—it’s to buy it from a shop that understands stabilization, sealing, and long-term care. We craft our meteorite using proven processes that protect the surface while preserving the pattern, and we stand behind it with support that lasts well beyond checkout.

Every meteorite inlay has its own look. Some pieces show clean, geometric banding; others display natural inclusions (like troilite) that appear as darker “beauty marks.” If you want a specific look, we can help guide you toward the right material and pattern style.

Jewelry by Johan is known for meteorite rings because we treat meteorite like the rare material it is: we authenticate it, work it carefully, and help you maintain it for the long haul. If you’re choosing a wedding band or engagement ring and you want something genuinely one-of-a-kind—something no factory can mass-produce—meteorite is one of the most meaningful materials on Earth… because it didn’t come from Earth.

Jewelry by Johan has a huge selection of meteorite jewelry that includes so much more than just meteorite men's wedding bands and meteorite engagement rings. We offer complimentary accessories such as meteorite cuff links that are perfect for grooms and groomsmen. We also have meteorite necklaces and bracelets. If you would like any of our meteorite designs in a different metal or style shown here, contact us for custom options. We can craft nearly anything you can imagine!

Meteorite FAQs

Is your meteorite genuine?

Yes. We use authentic Gibeon meteorite in most of our jewelry, and every piece includes a Certificate of Authenticity. Beware of cheap imitations—many “meteorite” rings on the market are fake. Learn how to spot real vs. fake meteorite jewelry in our blog.

Is meteorite hypoallergenic?

Meteorite is generally not hypoallergenic, as it commonly contains nickel—a known allergen for those with nickel sensitivities. For example, Gibeon meteorite comprises approximately 91.8% iron and 7.7% nickel, along with traces of cobalt, phosphorus, iridium, and gallium.

If you love the idea of meteorite but have concerns about allergies, our Stardust Collection offers a hypoallergenic alternative. These stunning designs feature genuine meteorite flakes blended with enamel (and often synthetic opal), creating a cosmic, space-inspired aesthetic without the direct skin contact of raw meteorite.

Additionally, when using meteorite inlays, placing them on the top of the ring—away from skin contact—and pairing with a hypoallergenic core metal (like titanium, zirconium, or platinum) further helps prevent allergic reactions.

Can you refinish or re-etch my meteorite ring?

Yes, send it in for our refresh service; we’ll clean, re-etch (if applicable), and refinish.

Can meteorite get wet?

Brief contact is fine; avoid prolonged exposure to water, saltwater, pools, and harsh chemicals.

Will meteorite rust?

Meteorite is iron-based and may develop surface oxidation over time. We seal each piece to help protect it and provide care instructions with every order. Regular use of our Meteorite Care Kit, light oiling, and keeping the jewelry dry will help prevent rust and maintain its beauty.

Where do we source our Gibeon meteorite from?

We source the meteorite used in our jewelry from a reputable meteorite supplier in the US. All meteorite used comes with a guarantee of authenticity.

How do I care for my meteorite jewelry?

With our meteorite care kit, you can use our de-corroder solution to remove any rust or corrosion that may develop on the surface of the meteorite due to exposure to moisture or environmental factors. This helps maintain the integrity and appearance of the jewelry.

Then, applying a wax polish creates a protective barrier to shield the meteorite from further oxidation and ensure its long-term preservation. Regular application of these treatments helps keep meteorite jewelry looking pristine while safeguarding its unique properties for years to come.
