Antler
What Types of Antler Are Available?
If you choose to use one of our naturally shed specimens rather than supplying your own antler, we have a variety of colors to choose from.
After your antler ring purchase, we will send you images to choose from. You pick your favorite!
Can I Supply My Own Antler?
Yes!
It can be used as a solid inlay if it meets our requirements for size:
1.5" minimum width
3" minimum length
If your antler is smaller, it can be crushed and coated with Ring Armor.
Here are instructions on how to send us your antler. Before sending, all fur/skin/skull must be removed.
Download and sign the required JBJ Liability Waiver; send along with your supplied material.

How Do I Clean My Antler Ring?
All of the antler elements in our rings are coated with Ring Armor, which makes them durable and water-resistant.
All fossilized dinosaur bone and other lapidary can be wiped clean with a soft, damp (not soaked) cloth with or without mild dishsoap. Then, wiped clean and dried with a separate dry, soft cloth. Taking care to remove all soap if any was used.
Visit our jewelry care page for more information, especially if your item contains other materials, which may have different care instructions.
How Do You Source Your Stock of Antler?
We legally collect and purchase naturally shed antler from public and private lands in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Can I Request Custom Creative Elements?

Checkout Issues
Why Am I Unable to Checkout?
If you receive a message that there are no shipping options for your address, there are a couple of reasons why this is likely.
REASON 1: The only item in your cart is Free Ring Sizing Kit-1170-2ADD (RING PURCHASE REQUIRED)
To fix, add a ring to your cart or delete the free sizing kit from your cart and you can purchase this sizing kit. No ring purchase is required along with that item.
REASON 2: You are located outside of the USA and trying to purchase an item with an internationally restricted wood species.
To fix, first browse the complete international wood list to find a wood substitute. Then, return to the original product page and click on "customize this item" to contact us to request an invoice for the item with the new wood type.
If you are still not certain what to do, please contact us and we will gladly assist you.

We offer in-person, virtual (video), or phone consultations in a variety of durations.
How Do I Request a Customization of an Existing Item?
You've found your almost perfect ring or accessory, but want to make a slight change. No problem!
On some items, you will have the option to change the profile, finish, color, wood species, etc.
For customizations not available on the product page, use the "Customize this Item" section located above the Add to Cart button on your desired item. It has a form you can use to contact us with your change request.
If your request is viable, we'll follow-up with a custom order invoice or price quote if the change results in a price change (e.g. swapping a peridot for a diamond).
If your request is not possible (sigh), we'll follow-up to explain why and work with you to try to find a viable alternative.
Is There an Additional Cost to Customize an Item?
We do not charge a customization or special order fee, but some item changes will likely result in an increase in final cost due to a change to more costly raw materials, gemstones, etc.
No cost customizations:
Ring Size (up to size 13)
Ring Profile
Ring Finish
Gold Color (in the same karat)
Enamel/Stardust Color
Mokume Color
Opal Color
*Wood Species
Examples of customizations that will likely change the cost:
Plus Size Ring (13.25+)
Gold Karat increase/decrease
Alternative to precious metal
Gemstone change
Wood species upgrade
Premium dino color upgrade
Perfect meteorite upgrade
*A price increase will result only if you change from a basic wood species to an exotic or premium species. Basic to basic has no upcharge. View our list of wood options.

Popular options include eternity bands and shadow bands, aka contour or curved bands.
We can create custom women's wedding bands to pair with your engagement ring from our shop or another jeweler.
What Is Required as Part of the Custom Design Process?
Ring Size
Read how to accurately measure ring size in our helpful blog that also includes an international ring size conversion chart.
We highly recommend you order our custom ring sizers. They are the most accurate way to determine your size and fit. And, if you order a ring sizer, but still receive your final ring in the wrong size, we will remake it in the correct size for no cost to you!
Ring Width
A trick to help gauge width options: 1 US nickel = 2mm. The most common width for a men’s wedding band is 8mm.
Metal Choice
We offer nearly all types of metal to bring your vision to reality. Most designs can be crafted with the metal of your choice, but there are exceptions to this with a limited number of ring styles. Please note, our white gold items are not rhodium plated. Learn more about metal types and view our complete list of metal options for rings.
Ring Profile

Add-ons Desired
We offer free text engraving (up to 25 characters), expedited shipping, shipping insurance, and more.
What Metals Are Hypoallergenic?
Hypoallergenic ring options include titanium, platinum, black ceramic, and tungsten.
Do You Offering Soldering Services?
Yes.
Please visit our soldering service add-on page for more information and to purchase this service.
Before performing this service, we must first assess if we are able to solder your rings safely. Submit your information in advance of purchasing.
Dinosaur Bone
What Is Gembone?
Gembone is another term used to describe the fossilized dinosaur bone in jewelry. Many believe it to be one of the most rare and beautiful fossils in the world.
View some pictures of gembone in the raw and cut into pieces for our jewelry.
Visit our dinosaur bone jewelry education page for more information.
What Are My Color Choices for Dinosaur Bone?
Visit our dinosaur bone jewelry education page for more information and images of the different color choices.
Is Dinosaur Bone Jewelry Legal?
Absolutely. Fossils are legal to own and distribute. In the United States, if a fossil is found on your property, you can do whatever you want with it.
Visit our dinosaur bone jewelry education page for more information on our fossilized dinosaur bone.
Where Do You Source Your Dinosaur Bone?
From the Morrison Formation in the southwest area of the USA.
Visit our dinosaur bone jewelry education page for more information on where we source our gembone.
How Do I Clean My Dinosaur Bone (or other Lapidary) Ring?
All fossilized dinosaur bone and other lapidary (turquoise, lapis lazuli, petrified wood) can be wiped clean with a soft, damp (not soaked) cloth with or without mild dishsoap. Then, wiped clean and dried with a separate dry, soft cloth. Taking care to remove all soap if any was used.
Cleaning with rubbing alcohol is not recommended!
Visit our jewelry care page for more information, especially if your item contains other materials, which may have different care instructions.
Is Fossilized Dinosaur Bone Durable?
Solid dinosaur bone could chip or break like any other stone. To keep the material looking beautiful, avoid exposure to acidic elements and polishing agents. Be cautious not to hit your jewelry against a hard surface.
Crushed dinosaur bone is coated with our Ring Armor coating making it extremely durable and water-resistant.
Can Damaged Dinosaur Bone (or Other Lapidary) Be Repaired?
If your dinosaur bone (or other lapidary) becomes chipped or cracks, please contact us via our Repairs Page and we can help you assess the damage and potential repair process.
REPAIR OPTIONS:
Option 1: Replace the broken lapidary material with crushed; we offer this service for no charge and then your item will be covered by our Ring Armor protection plan.
Option 2: Replace the lapidary with another solid inlay of lapidary; however, this requires that we remake the ring. Your current ring must be returned to us, and we will reuse what we can. There is a fee associated with this option; it is dependant on the damage. At most, your repair fee should be no more than 50% of the current retail price.
Should I Choose Crushed or Solid Dinosaur Bone?
Solid dinosaur bone has a more prominent pattern and bolder color. It is hard and durable, but just like any stone, could be damaged if knocked on a harder surface.
Crushed dinosaur bone is coated with Ring Armor protection (includes lifetime warranty) that makes it very durable and water-resistant, usually has a darker color, more subtle pattern and costs less.
What Species of Dinosaur Does Your Bone Come From?
The gembone we use in our jewelry is from fragments that are impossible to match with the rest of a complete skeleton. This makes it difficult to know the species the bone originated from.
Be wary of sellers who claim to know the dinosaur species (e.g. T-Rex rings). It requires costly testing to truly confirm species.

Engraving
Do You Offer Engraving Services?
We offer FREE, laser text engraving of up to 25 characters with a variety of fonts to choose from!
We also have a laser image engraving add-on; this is most commonly used to add images of symbols, icons, fingerprints, and other patterns. In most cases, we can use your digital, hand-drawn, or printed picture for an image engraving.
Engraving notes:
• If your ring is 4mm or less, we can only use the Gulim or Cambria fonts.
• We cannot engrave rings if they are 2mm wide or thinner.
• We cannot engrave on materials coated with ring armor (e.g. wood, antler, crushed dinosaur bone) or on mokume.
• If you are ordering an item crafted in black ceramic or tungsten AND you want to have it engraved, we require that you also purchase a custom sizer. Unlike most other metals, we are unable to remove custom engravings from returned items crafted in black ceramic or tungsten (rendering them of $0 resell value). The purchase of a custom sizer is the best way to ensure your ring is the perfect fit before adding the custom engraving.
What Font Options are Available for Text Engraving?
These are our engraving font options.
Engraving notes:
• Up to 25 characters (including spaces and characters)
• If your ring is 4mm or less, we can only use the Gulim or Cambria fonts.
• We cannot engrave rings if they are 2mm wide or thinner.
• We cannot engrave on materials coated with ring armor (e.g. wood, antler, crushed dinosaur bone) or on mokume.
Can You Engrave Symbols?
Yes, as part of free text engraving service, we can engrave select symbols with the Monotype, Gulim, Courier, and Arial font options:
Heart = ♥
Open heart: ♡ (Gulim font only)
Infinity = ∞
Or, with our image engraving service, we can use a digital file to engrave other symbols, icons, logos, etc.
Do You Offer Fingerprint Engravings?
Yes. There are width/size requirements, so if you'd like to add a fingerprint engraving to a ring or other item, please contact us to inquire before purchasing this service.
Once confirmed, purchase our Image Engraving Add-on.
Why is My Item Missing the Engraving?
This generally occurs for two reasons.
1. We made a human error (eek)! Please contact us and we will provide you with a pre-paid shipping label to return it back to us.
2. Size confirmation was required and not provided. For all of our black ceramic, zirconium and tungsten rings, size must be confirmed with our custom sizers or we will not engrave the ring. This is because engravings are unable to be removed from these metals. If the ring(s) you received fit as desired, and you'd still like the engraving added, contact us for a FREE shipping label to send the ring back to us to be engraved. If your ring does not fit, you will be responsible for a 35% remake fee for the same ring in the correct size. However, to take advantage of the 35% remake fee, you must purchase custom ring sizers to ensure that you are getting the correct size the second time around.

How Can I Insure My Jewelry Items?
Adding your fine jewelry to your homeowner's insurance policy is a low-cost way to cover yourself in the event of loss, damage, theft, etc. Coverage costs will vary dependent on your item value and geography, but for most people, insuring your jewelry will cost 1-2% of its value (e.g. a $5,000 ring will cost you an additional $50-$100 annually).
Or, Jeweler’s Mutual offers affordable insurance coverage.
Do You Have a Lifetime Warranty?
We offer lifetime meteorite ring protection. Send us your meteorite ring for free cleaning and re-etching as many times as desired. We also offer a meteorite care kit for at-home cleaning.
We offer lifetime repair of Ring Armor. All of our antler, wood, and crushed material rings are sealed with a proprietary product we call Ring Armor that protects the material from moisture. If anytime after your purchase, you find a chink in your Ring Armor, if viable, we’ll repair it for free if the material underneath is not damaged.
For both of the above services, you only pay for shipping your item(s) to us. We’ll do our best to make your jewelry look as good as new and cover the cost to ship it back to you.
Visit our RGA requests page to submit a service request.

Can You Create Memorial Jewelry With Human Remains?
Yes. We would be honored to create a piece of jewelry to honor the lives of your lost loved one, human or animal.
How Do I Clean My Memorial Jewelry?
All of the ashes in our rings are coated with Ring Armor, which makes them durable and water-resistant.
Do You Offer Custom Memorial Jewelry?
Yes! There are a couple of options.
OPTION 1: Customize An Existing Item With Cremains
Nearly every item can be customized to feature ashes. On our memorial jewelry collection page, we have a variety of cremation jewelry options, but if you find a different ring or accessory design that doesn't feature ashes, it's likely we can substitute ashes for whatever material(s) are originally present.
OPTION 2: Custom Design Option
We can create you a completely custom memorial ring or accessory to memorialize your loved one's memory. In most cases, this will include a CAD rendering.
Visit our custom jewelry design page for information.
Metals
What Are Your Metal Options?
View our complete list of metal options, including pros and cons, pricing comparisons and more.
Alternative metal options include zirconium, damascus, tungsten, and titanium.
Precious metal options include solid gold, platinum and sterling silver.
None of our metals are plated, including our white gold. We do not rhodium plate our white gold like many traditional jewelers.
What Rings Can I Order If I Have Metal Allergies?
There are a handful of hypoallergenic metals that are non-irritant AND other unique, alternative materials used to make rings that won’t cause skin irritation:
• Titanium
• Platinum
• Nickel-bound Tungsten*
• Ceramic
• Elysium
• Silicone
However, if you are allergic to Nickel please note that Gibeon Meteorite does contain around 7% nickel that is not bonded.
Nickel-bound tungsten carbide is 100% hypoallergenic. That seems unlikely because nickel is the usual suspect metal allergen, but because the tungsten is bound to the nickel, it prevents it from being an irritant. Because of science.
What Rings Are Non-Conductive And Safe For Electricians?
Metal is conductive, so black ceramic rings are your best option as long as they don't also include a conductive material. Below is a list of popular ring materials that are non-conductive:
Antler
Black Ceramic
Dino Bone
Enamel
Jade
Lapis Lazuli
Synthetic Opal
Wood
If you need assistance finding or creating a custom, non-conductive ring, please contact us.
Can I Supply My Own Metal?
Sometimes. This is very much dependent on the composition of the metal you'd like to supply and your desired custom item.
For example, if you have a gold ring, we may be able to repurpose it into a new ring by melting it down and recasting.
Contact us directly to discuss this option further.
Is Your White Gold Plated?
The white gold in our rings IS NOT rhodium plated.
We prefer to let the natural state of the gold shine. Plus, it doesn't require replating every couple of years to sustain its beauty.
With that in mind, if you're interested in a curved, custom wedding band to mate with a plated white gold engagement ring purchased from another jewelry store, it will look slightly more yellow in color.
Meteorite
Is Your Meteorite Genuine?
We stand by the authenticity of the rare, unique materials used in our jewelry, particularly our meteorite.
Your meteorite item will include a certificate of authenticity.
Learn more about the types of meteorite in jewelry and where it comes from. Most of our items contain Gibeon meteorite.
Beware of fake meteorite ring sellers. Learn how to tell if it's real meteorite from our blog.
What Kind of Meteorite Is Used In Your Jewelry?
Gibeon meteorite is used in the majority of our meteorite jewelry to showcase its unique and beautiful Widmanstatten pattern.
We also have jewelry with campo del cielo, muonionalista and more.
Learn more details about types of meteorite, their origins and more on our meteorite education page.
How Can I Tell Real vs Fake Meteorite?
Rest assured, our meteorite is 100% genuine, but sadly, there a lot of sellers claiming to sell meteorite rings that don't contain REAL meteorite.
We created a helpful blog, with a list of ways to tell if meteorite is real.
Can Meteorite Get Wet?
Meteorite can get wet, but it is recommended to dry as soon as possible.
Does Meteorite Rust?
Because meteorite is an iron-based material, it does have the potential to rust. If you’re lucky, the meteorite in your jewelry might not rust at all, but the majority of real meteorite does tend to rust over time.
Removing rust is easy with our DIY meteorite care kit.
All of our meteorite rings have liftime protection and servicing; send us your ring anytime for cleaning and re-etching.
Visit our RGA Requests page for information on how to request your meteorite cleaning.
What Is The Dark Spot On My Meteorite?
That's troilite! It's a completely naturally occuring mineral deposit that's commonly found in meteorite.
If you'd prefer your meteorite to be troilite free, we offer our troilite free add-on.
Learn more about troilite in meteorite jewelry.
Mokume Gane

Why Can't I Order My Desired Ring in My Size?
If the drop-down size selector on your desired ring doesn't include your ring size, use the "Customize this Item" form located above the "Add to Cart" button to request a special order invoice in your desired size.
Because we handcraft nearly everything in-house, we can make most rings in the US sizes 2-22!
Plus sizes 13.25+ cost more than standard-sized rings due to an increase in metal, materials, gemstones, etc. required for larger sizes.
Why Do I Have to Pay Sales Tax?
We are required by law to collect tax at checkout.
Based on a June 2018 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, many states are now requiring out-of-state sellers to collect sales tax. All reputable retailers are complying with the new laws and collecting sales tax.
If you have questions about sales tax collection, please email us or call customer service at (651) 321-9267. There are often multiple rates per ZIP Code, county, and city; therefore, accurate rates are determined based on address, you can utilize Avalara Sales Tax Calculator.

We do not offer rush orders at this time. All custom orders are inserted into our production queue after being paid in full.

What Is The Best Way to Find My Perfect Ring Fit?
THE most accurate way to ensure the perfect fit of your JBJ ring is with a JBJ custom ring sizer.
This is primarily because sizing standards and measurements vary across different countries and not all measuring tools (calipers, mandrels, etc.) are created equally. Our custom sizers are based on our tool's measurements and machining specs, so when you find your perfect fit with a custom JBJ ring sizer, we will be crafting your finished item with the same measurements for width, internal diameter, etc.
How Can I Accurately Measure Ring Size?
Visit our eduction page with more tips on how to accurately measure your ring size?
Check out this VIDEO on why and how to use our custom sizers.
Where Do I Download the Free Ring Sizing App?
Try our free ring sizing app today to get an estimated ring size. It's available for both iOs and Android.
Then use the size(s) reported by the app to order our custom ring sizers, which are crafted in the width of your desired ring!
The ring sizing app is designed to find your estimated ring size. The size reported is not recommended to be used for your final, confirmed size.
How Can I Find My Estimated Ring Size?
OPTION 1: The most convenient and quickest way to find your estimated ring size is our free ring sizing app (available for iOs and Android).
OPTION 2: Visit a local jewelry store to get your finger sized in the approprate fit (comfort or standard) of your desired ring.
OPTION 3: We offer free blue sizing kit as a tool to find your estimated size from the comfort of home.
We have two options for how to order the blue sizing kit:
• You can choose to add it for free while ordering your custom ring, don't worry your order will be placed on hold while we await your ring size.
• You can pay $3.00 for this sizing kit, then order your ring at a later time.
Why Should I Order A Custom Ring Sizer?
Nearly all of our rings are made to order just for you and are unable to be resized, so finding your perfect fit is critical.
Check out this VIDEO on why and how to use our custom sizers.
Custom ring sizers are THE most accurate way to preview your desired ring's fit. Each custom ring sizer is made in a similar width (within 1mm) and estimated size (comfort or standard). This helps ensure a perfect fit, as the width of a ring also plays a part in how the ring sits on the finger. When you try your sizer(s), it will be like getting to try on and verify the fit of your own custom ring. Without a custom ring order, we are not able to replicate its specifications as needed.
Our free remake policy is valid only if you purchase the sizer and it fits, if the sizer does not fit please purchase the next size that you need. We make your custom ring in the exact size and width as the sizer that we shipped to you.
How Do I Order Custom Sizers?
The JBJ custom ring sizers can be ordered at the same time of your ring purchase.
If you've already ordered a ring, you may still purchase sizers separately at a later time.
Note that any orders for only custom sizers will be cancelled if we cannot find a custom ring order associated. Custom sizers are for customers only.
How Many Custom Sizers Should I Order?
We recommend ordering multiple sizes if you want to truly ensure a perfect fit.
For example, if you estimate your size to be 9, order a size 9.5 and 8.5.
That way, if the 9 is too small and the 9.5 is too large, you can safely assume a 9.25 will fit just right!
How Long Should I Wear The Custom Sizer(s)?
Once you receive your custom ring sizer, we recommend wearing it for 1-2 days to determine if it is a proper fit.
Or, if you've ordered multiple sizers, wear each sizer for that same duration to determine which one is the best fit.
Submit your confirmed ring size.
After you have confirmed your ring size, we will schedule your custom ring to begin production.
How Should My Custom Sizer or Ring Fit?
Check out this VIDEO on why and how to use our custom sizers.
Everyone's "perfect" fit is going to be different, but a good rule of thumb is that when a ring fits easily over your knuckle, you should be able to get it on without struggle and then have a slight pull at the knuckle when removing it. You may need to twist the ring 1 to 2 times to get it off.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Your finger fluctuates in size during the day due to temperature, diet, activities, etc. and that is why we recommend wearing the custom sizer for at least 24 hours to most accurately gauge fit.
Your ring will likely feel tighter in warmer months, and looser in winter months. If you're using a custom sizer in the winter, try and keep your hands warm while sizing to ensure it will fit in the summer. If your hands stay cold while sizing, then your ring might be tighter in the summer.
FINGER/KNUCKLE SHAPE: Some fingers are largest at the base and gradually taper without a prominent knuckle. On this type of finger, the ring should fit snugly at the base of the finger without causing bulges or a permanent indent. You should be able to push the ring up from the underneath side of your finger and see a small space between the ring and the top of the finger, this gives your finger some breathing room.
How Do I Contact You To Confirm My Ring Size
After you place your order, it will be placed on a temporary hold until you are able to confirm your size using your custom sizers. Once you receive your custom ring sizers, wear each for 1-2 days to determine which fit/size you like best.
Submit your confirmed ring size determined after wearing your custom sizers.
Contact us as soon as possible to confirm your desired size. After you have confirmed your ring size, we will remove the hold on your order and add your custom ring(s) into our production schedule.
How Do You Measure Your Bracelet Size?
Bracelets come in many different styles and sizes and make a great addition to any jewelry collection.
Download and print this bracelet sizing guide to help measure your bracelet size.
Depending on the style and your preference, you'll want to add a little room for dangle or to ensure the ability to put the bracelet on and take it off, if it doesn't have a clasp closure.
What are Considered Plus Size Rings?
For men, US sizes over 13 are typically considered plus size. For women, US sizes 10 and larger are plus sizes. Use our International Ring Size Conversion Chart to figure out equivalent sizes in your country. We ship worldwide!
In our online store, most men’s wedding bands and women’s wedding bands can be ordered up to US size 13 online. If you'd like a larger size (we can go up to US ring size 22 for most designs, including 1/4 and 1/2 sizes), simply request a custom quote.
Why Do Plus Size Wedding Rings Cost More?
Larger rings cost more because they require more materials, metal, etc. to craft the larger size. Needless to say, they cost the jeweler more to make, so the price is higher for the customer.
To keep plus size ordering simple and easy, Jewelry by Johan takes average costs and we price standard sizes 13 and smaller the same. Then, we also price all of our plus sizes 13.25 and larger the same, but 30% more.
For example, a ring that’s $1,000 up to size 13 would be $1,300 in plus sizes 13.25 and larger.
How Can I Get My Partner's Ring Size Without Them Knowing?
There is no sure-fire way of secret ring sizing, but we understand the desire in securing your partner's ring size for a surprise proposal, commitment ceremony, birthday or anniversary.
Here are suggestions that might work for you to make sure the surprise is special.
Measure an Existing Ring
If your partner owns a ring that fits the ring finger of their right hand, chances are that it's a little bit bigger or smaller than the left hand. It all depends on which hand is his/her dominant hand. If you know that the the ring fits perfectly on the left ring finger you could slip away for a few hours and get the ring measured at your local jewelry store. If you can't slip away with the ring, make an impression of it on a bar of soap or clay, or trace the inside of the ring on a piece of paper.
Phone A Friend Or Mother
Ask your partner's mom, best friend or anyone close to them who might know their ring size. Your partner's mom might have a "secret heirloom" ring lying around that your partner could try on.
Fake Shopping Trip
You'll need an excuse like a sister or mother's birthday to get her in a jewelry store. Ask your partner to help you pick out a gift and look at rings among other things. Your partner might get suspicious of your sudden interest in jewelry shopping, so you could enlist the help of your partner's friend or mom to take him/her shopping instead.
Pay Attention
You may discover that your partner is leaving you clues, especially if they have a specific ring in mind as a present or as an engagement ring. They might want to try on a ring at the mall, or a friend might know of a ring design he/she was looking at.
String Sizer
Measure your partner's ring finger while they are asleep. By simply slipping a string or ribbon around their finger as they sleep, you can have an approximate measurement to bring to your local jewelry store.
Plastic Ring Sizer
Order plastic ring sizers and leave it lying around the house. Tell your partner that you are thinking of buying a ring for yourself and maybe he/she will play around with the sizers. Keep in mind that the width of the ring will determine the ring size. The wider the ring, the more snug it will fit. And don't forget, our customer service can give you plenty of information about ring sizing and ordering plastic ring sizers.
How Will Different Ring Widths Look on My Hand?
Different Ring Widths on Women's Hands
Different Ring Widths on Men's Hands
An easy way to get a visual idea of ring width is to use US nickels. US nickel = 2mm wide
If you want to get an accurate idea of how wide a 6mm wedding band will be, stack 3 nickels and you can easily see!
